Maurer United Architects
In 1998 Marc Maurer en Nicole Maurer established Maurer United Architects [MUA] in Eindhoven. MUA is known for investigating and redefining the borders of the architecture design-field, resulting into architecture-, design- and media projects on various scales. In 2004 MUA established a second office in Maastricht, with its focus on the building practice.
For Glocal Affairs, MUA has created an installation addressing themes from architecture, sculpture and Lego. Lego is a global product. Children all over the world play with these building blocks, limited on the one hand by the “rules of the game” (there is only one way of connecting the blocks with each other and the dimensions are fixed) while on the other hand given the unlimited freedom to create something from their own imagination. MUA explores the boundaries of this, trying to develop a cross-over product that will respond to the local context of the Timmerfabriek in Maastricht.
