Glocal Affairs presents "Het Grindkabinet" ("The Gravel Gallery") by Erik Van Maarschalkerwaard. An ode to the beauty and richness of the gravel hidden within the Limburg soil, a gift of the River Maas, and in no small way a defining feature of the geologic and geographic makeup of Limburg.
In "Het Grindkabinet," Van Maarschalkerwaard puts this gravel, the very same gravel extracted from the ground by the millions of tonnes not far from the Maas, in a different perspective. Doesn't this gravel deserve better than to end up as the main component in concrete, disappearing into public works never to be seen again, and what would the world look like if the individual beauty of the pebble was better appreciated? These are the questions Van Maarschalkerwaard asks in "Het Grindkabinet."
