Lives and works in Amsterdam
Sander van Deurzen’s paintings confront us with a grotesque world. He manages to turn the increasing degree of control which we wish to have over our lives upside down. With fleeting waves of acrylic paint, he creates a caricature of our society and shows us the utter absurdity of reality.
The paintings exhibited by him during Glocal Affairs were inspired by the street on which he lived for a time next to the Leidseplein in Amsterdam. The melting pot of cultures, the advertisements for food, and the display window layouts of tourist restaurants all figure in his work as well as images from the media and religious figures reminiscent of his own Catholic background.
