Calin Dan shows his video ‘17.12.65’ (2008). This was made in commission of the municipality of Heerlen and can be seen a as an ironic essay on what Dan sees as the historical beginnings of the present neo-liberal globalization, namely the day that Joop den Uyl announced the first closures of the mines in Limburg.
’17.12.65’ makes extensive use of photo archive material, in combination with full-motion animations. Ghosts of Roman ladies, trolls and mythical animals are meeting real-life political figures and muscular miners in a plot turning around the liquidation of the industrial tradition in Europe.
