The Dalemans Brothers produce videos, performances and exhibitions using film archives primarily from Belgian-Limburg and Congo from the period between 1945 and 1970. In their work, they juxtapose the two cultures. This is also the case in the installation on show during Glocal Affairs. In this piece, a film recording is shown of the “Maasfee election”, an initiative of Dutch and Belgian Limburg in the 1960s to appoint a female cultural ambassador to promote the Limburg identity, alongside a home-movie clip from the same period in Congo. This forms a cynical and pressing comment on the dissemination of white culture in Africa.
