Gabriel Bertrand’s photographs came into being while roaming through the outskirts of urban areas. Inner perception is more important here than what is visible to the naked eye. The light and the subdued atmosphere give new life to these drab, grey locations. “Mu” is a Japanese Zen concept that both negatively answers a question and rejects that question. The question “what is depicted here?”, for example, is therefore pointless.
